This key position coordinates the delivery of Research Accounting finance support to various stakeholders, while adhering to and promoting strong internal control and best practices. The Analyst will provide support with all aspects of accounting, financial analysis and reporting on research and non-research projects.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities(job functions include but are not limited to):Act as finance support for research and non-research restricted funds and accounting related issues and follow up with key stakeholders as requiredCoordinate the operational aspects of the financial processes within Research Accounting projects to ensure these processes are effectively planned, coordinated and communicated to stakeholdersRespond to and resolve complex process issues, engaging the respective manager as requiredSupport Research Accounting’s decision making process by compiling and performing meaningful financial analysis and ad hoc reporting on restricted and projectsEnsure accurate classification and reporting of restricted funds and coordinate and initiate corrections Work in partnership with stakeholders to continuously seek to improve financial processes and procedures within the Research Accounting by working with finance process ownersAssist with educating team members in Research Accounting on finance processes and financial planning and analysisStay current on trends and approaches to financial management and processes through continued professional developmentRemain current on factors that would initiate change, such as University policies and procedures and granting agency regulationsProvide advice of non-adherence to University policies and escalate when appropriate to ensure resolutionRecommend changes to procedures, process and reporting activities, which may include advising and/or leading project teams established to evaluate and implement improvementsProvide accurate and timely completion of special assignments and projects, including reports on findings, and including recommendations and outcomesImplement and support change successfullyDevelop documentation and financial reports for the various audits, reconciliations and special projects (working papers, activity summaries, project testing, variance and comparative analysis)Foster and build collaborative, supportive relationships with stakeholdersActively develop close partnerships with key client stakeholders, service providers as well as other University of Calgary departments including Information Technology, Human Resources, and operational managementContribute to the creation of operational plans to deliver the requirements for Finance within client environmentRecommend the operational use of Finance resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of financial servicesInitiate, implement and support new or modified approaches, practices and processesContinually analyze the change process and makes necessary adjustments to maximize effectivenessProvide input into the department’s business plans to determine resource requirementsContribute to an environment that fosters quality improvement and a culture of safety, dignity and respect for staffCommit to continually improving health and safety performance through promotion of culture supporting hazard assessment, risk management, incident identification, reporting and correction, and compliance with applicable regulations, policiesQualifications / Requirements:A recent graduate or near completion of a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) with a related University degree, in business, finance, accounting or a related fieldFive or more years of extensive work experience in progressively more responsible role accounting functions including budgeting, and financial analysis. An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired will be consideredExcellent communicator with strong written and verbal skillsStrong interpersonal skills and are capable of building and maintaining productive and supportive working relationshipsProficient user of computer software applications, including large integrated enterprise resource planning systems, data warehousing and business intelligence tools, and spreadsheetsApplication Deadline:October 24, 2018We would like to thank all applicants in advance for submitting their resumes.
