Responsibilities: The Agronomy Lead, in collaboration with the Breeding Team, works to develop and implement a Western Canadian canola research trial program to develop commercial canola hybrids. This position directly manages a team of professional agronomists spread across three provinces (SK, MB, AB). The Agronomy Lead oversees the planning and execution of a field breeding program including the research farm in Aberdeen and off-site yield trials and nurseries, for breeding and disease. The Agronomy Lead is responsible for yield trial data review, resource organization, and operational and capital purchase budgeting. Principal Accountabilities: 50% – Manage team of Research Agronomists from locations across Western Canada to achieve project objectives including trial initiation, efficient conduct, collection and reporting of data. Effective leadership in safety, staffing, supply budget, R&M and capital acquisitions will be required to achieve business objectives. 20% – In collaboration with breeding team, initiate and execute successful field trial and nursery program to support Breeding plan.This requires significant participation in trial design, location selection, process improvement, and ongoing quality improvement. 15% – In coordination with provincial research Agronomists, direct oversight of summer field research trials including land selection and contracting, site development, all aspects of agronomic trial management, including seeding, spraying, maintenance and harvest. 10% – Travel to remote research locations/provinces to effectively manage satellite provincial agronomists. 5% – Effectively communicate performance knowledge of Victory product line-up to Production Teams, emphasis will be on RST and VPT trial entries.
