If yes, this role may be for you!The Role…The Advisorsupports and works in consultation with the departmental Leaders, Regions Health and Safety Associate and Program area staff, to develop and maintain a safe and healthy environment for staff and provide expert advice/guidance, training and programs consistent with legislative, regulatory and the Region’s Occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs.What you will do:Consults with Management and Staff in the Program areas to successfully support the establishment and implementation and maintenance of the OHSMS.Analyzes the departments work environment and procedures to ensure adherence to regulations and ensure that the necessary processes and procedures are established, implemented and maintained throughout the department.Ensures integration, compatibility and compliance with legal requirements and the Region’s Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs. Ensures a systematic approach to meeting defined occupational health and safety objectives and promotion of workplace physical, mental and social well-being of workers.Conducts audits to assess compliance with regulatory standards and system requirements.Maintains an effective OHSMS to enable the Department to manage Occupational Health and Safety issues as an integrated part of its overall program operations.Assists the department with Emergency prevention, preparedness and response plans through identification of potential emergency situations, planned responses to emergency situations where there is a likelihood of a risk of illness or injury.Assists the program areas with data collection, analysis and reporting for health and safety, analyzing metrics to support reporting on Departmental performance.Conducts regular reviews in consultation with Management and Staff and ensure staff participation to identify and address any barriers to maintain an effective OHSM.Establishes and document OHS objectives, targets and timelines with the program areas to be consistent with the Regions Occupational health and safety policy and programs and the Regions Strategic Plan.Reports on a regular basis to Department Leadership Team, and Management staff in the program areas on the performance of the OHSMS and any need for improvements through development of graphical and tabular presentation of dataLead and coordinate risk management assessments, documentation and training. Identifies processes to eliminate work-related hazards and controls associated with Risk Management.Supports ROP H&S Associate and Program Management Staff with the investigation of workplace injuries, accidents and near misses, by preparing recommendations for prevention and ensuring implementation of corrective actions.Maintains working knowledge of H&S legislation and developments that may impact the DepartmentWhat we require:Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, with at least five years’ experience planning, implementing and managing Systems and Standards in complex work environments (including both unionized and non-unionized workforce) or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Comprehensive working Knowledge of OHS management systems, CSA-Z1000-14 Standards and experience with reviewing and applying Federal and Provincial legislation. Experience developing and auditing OHS programs in a Municipal environment preferredDemonstrated experience developing and managing an Occupational Health and Safety management system. Consulting experience including proposal writing, project management, and business development is required.Effective communication skills, verbal and written to prepare reports and deliver effective presentations for all levels of staff.Demonstrated report writing, analytical and project management skills to meet program objectives and work to tight deadlines.Negotiating skills to convince managers of the need to implement and maintain safety standards that may compromise speed or efficiency in the organization.Ability to understand, analyze and apply technical and regulatory or complex information and present it simply and accurately; in a non-technical way.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and web-based applicationsAbility to work cooperatively as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervisionAccess to own transportation and valid Class “G” license in good standingWork Location:10 Peel Centre Drive, BramptonHours of work:35 hours /weekIf this opportunity matches your qualifications and experience, please apply online.At the Region of Peel, we respect diversity and treat one another in ways that are fair, courteous and compassionate, recognizing everyone’s contributions.
