ERM is seeking a motivated Social Consultant with a background in stakeholder engagement, socio-economic research, and corporate social responsibility to join our office in Vancouver, BC . The ideal candidate will have a versatile skillset that enables them to contribute to the Social Performance team’s activities, including stakeholder and Aboriginal consultation and engagement, socio-economics, land use, traditional use/traditional knowledge, impact assessment, project monitoring and evaluation, and strategic social impact management planning. In particular, the candidate will be expected to lead aspects of stakeholder and Aboriginal consultation and engagement in relation to mining, oil & gas and other major projects across Canada, including planning, implementation, documentation and reporting. RESPONSIBILITIES: Aboriginal and stakeholder engagement: Develop and implement Aboriginal and stakeholder consultation/engagement plans and related programs. Manage consultation and stakeholder management tracking databases for various clients, including data entry, quality control, and preparation of reports. Advise project managers and external clients in regard to regulatory requirements and best management practices for Aboriginal and stakeholder engagement. Ensure that information from Aboriginal and stakeholder engagement is communicated to relevant parties (internal and external) and incorporated into studies and impact assessments. Facilitate meetings/workshops with clients, Aboriginal groups, communities, and/or other parties. Socio-economics, land use, and other studies: Contribute to socio-economic, land use, traditional use/traditional knowledge, and other studies (including baseline studies and impact assessments), including desk-based and field research, data analysis, and reporting. Plan and conduct field research, as required, using quantitative and qualitative methods, such as literature review, household surveys, key informant interviews, focus groups, etc. Design and implement mitigation and management plans, and monitoring programs. Support creative and innovative solutions to diverse client needs. General expectations for consulting: Must have excellent reporting skills, attention to detail, and be able to prepare technical reports to a high standard. Must perform multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring high quality standards on project deliverables. Must communicate clearly and effectively with clients, team members, and other ERM staff and sub-consultants. Must embrace opportunities for professional growth and challenge. REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree (or established work experience) in sociology, public policy, human geography, international development, or other related discipline. Experience in facilitation and participatory engagement methods. Knowledge and experience of regulatory requirements, and international best practices, for Aboriginal and stakeholder consultation/engagement (required) and other aspects of social performance (preferred) and impact assessment (preferred). Experience analyzing and interpreting data, and writing high-quality and concise technical reports. Project management experience is an asset. 3 to 5 years of experience, including willingness/interest in research. Fluency in a second language is desirable, particularly French and Spanish. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Professional attributes Effective written and verbal communication skills and experience working collaboratively and in a team environment. Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Able to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and travel as needed (within Canada, and possibly internationally).
