Trans Mountain was established on March 21, 1951, when the Parliament of Canada granted the company a charter, setting in motion the construction of a pipeline that today still serves as the key transportation link between the Alberta oilsands and the west coast of North America.Today Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting crude oil and refined products to the West Coast. They deliver nearly 300,000 barrels of crude oil and refined products each day through 1,274 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington State. The Trans Mountain Expansion Project will provide increased capacity to support Canadian crude oil production growth and ensure access to global energy markets. The largest project in the pipeline’s history, it involves installing approximately 980 kilometres of new pipeline, new and modified facilities including pump stations and terminals, and a new dock complex at the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, British Columbia.As a Director, Government Relations & Corporate Communications with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of stakeholder engagement and communications professionals. The Director, Government Relations & Corporate Communications is a key strategic leader in the organization responsible for Federal, Provincial and Municipal Government Affairs. The Director also oversees internal and external communications. This position is a full-time in office position based in our Calgary Head Office and reports to the VP, Communications, Government & External Affairs.The successful candidate will ideally possess the following:Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Law or related field.IABC or CPRS professional designations or related professional accreditation is considered an asset.Minimum 15 years in a senior role working with public, government and media relations, communication, public affairs or related fields.Be a senior leader and polished coach who is able to oversee employees at various levels of professional experience.Experience as a political staff would be considered an asset.Media training experience would be considered an asset.Strong organizational, time management and leadership/people management skills are essential.Experience creating and delivering impactful communication plans and content for a range of online and offline internal and external communications channels.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written is required.Strong organizational and project management skills with experience in managing multiple, diverse projects and tight deadlines with autonomy, while maintaining timely, high-quality work across the team.Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to navigate and facilitate difficult conversations.Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner in a high-paced, multi-task environment.Extremely responsive and able to work in constantly changing circumstances.Comfortable with uncertainty.High attention to detail and professional communications standards.Able to deliver high volumes of work under challenging circumstances. Trans Mountain also operates through 15 First Nation Reserves located within the region spanning the BC interior through Fraser Valley.
